The emphasis differs between Taekwondo and kickboxing. Taekwondo is a martial art that emphasizes kicks, with hand strikes serving as a secondary weapon. In contrast, kickboxing emphasizes the use of all limbs as weapons, such as kicks, punches, and knee strikes.
STRIKING ARTS
A haymaker is a punch that is thrown with full force and total commitment. The punch is similar to a hook but employing the shoulders and the hips to enhance the power of the blow. The punch is intended to be a knockout blow, but if it misses the target, it can leave the fighter open to a counter.
Taekwondo can be effective in a fight due to its kicking accuracy and power. However, the major problem with Taekwondo as self-defense is that it does not prepare you for the fight on the ground, where many fights occur.
Boxing is considered a martial art because it fits the definition of a martial art perfectly. It is a combat skill that can be used for self-defense, as a sport, or used by the military as a means of close-quarters combat. Boxing has systemized methods of training for the purpose of combat.
In an abstract way, Boxers and Muay Thai artists have sparred many times to determine who wins in a fight. Muay Thai artists can box but will rarely win a boxing match against a dedicated boxer. In a situation where kicks are allowed, the Muay Thai artist will have an advantage.
Boxing is good for self-defense because it teaches you how to block an attacker and fight them if necessary. Boxing also improves fitness, strengthens motor skills and mentally prepares you for a fight. However, people often learn another martial art so they can also fight on the ground if required.
